OVERSPEEDS AND SPEED LIMITERS

As you are probably aware speed limiters must be fitted to goods vehicles exceeding 7,500 kg maximum gross weight if they are capable of a speed (when unladen) in excess of 60mph (vehicles up to 12,000 kg), and 53mph (vehicles over 12,000kg) as follows:

Speed settings from 01/01/2000

60 mph "set - speed" setting - limited

Vehicles exceeding 7,500 kg up to 12,000 kg first used from August 1, 1992.

60 mph - not limited

Vehicles exceeding 12,000 kg first used before January 1 1988.

85 k/hr (52.8mph) "set speed "or 90 k/hr(56 mph) "stabilised speed" setting -

Vehicles exceeding 12,000 kg first used from January 1 1988.

70 mph (112 kph) - not limited

Vehicles up to 7.5T
