Damage to charts

There have been a  number of reports of charts being damaged in Veeder Roote heads fitted to Scania lV series vehicles.

It has been suggested that this is caused by the heating system fitted to the vehicle being too close to the tachograph head.  As a result the heat is causing the glue on the plaques inside the head to melt.  This is getting onto the backing plate which in turn causes the chart to stick to the plate.  The centre cam then turns without the chart moving which causes the centre of the chart to rip and the chart to over trace on itself.  In some instances the plaques are coming off the body of the tachograph head altogether.

These plaques must be fitted by law and cannot be removed and if they become detached they should be re-fitted.  This problem is under investigation by Scania and Veeder Roote and as soon as we have a result we will post it on this page.  If anyone else is experiencing this problem or has any information let us know here

If you are experiencing this problem the driver must keep manual entries on the rear of the damaged charts.
