Laptop Computers

When using a laptop you may find that there is no PS2 connection at the rear for you to attach the cable from the Compact Reader.  In this case you will need to purchase a PS2 to USB adapter.  This cable need to be attached in order for the reader to draw power.

It will also be difficult using the keyboard to enter data from charts.  In this instance you can purchase a USB number lock which will sit alongside your laptop.

You may find that there is no COMMS port at the rear.  In this case you will need to purchase an COMMS to USB adapter and then yopu will need to assign this USB port to be COM1.  Details on how to do this can be found below.

With the cable plugged in (otherwise you won’t see Ports in the list of hardware devices), go to Control Panel, System, Hardware, Device Manager.

Open the Ports node on the tree of hardware devices (+). Double click the Prolific USB to Serial Comm Port or right click & select properties.

Click the Port Settings Tab, then the Advanced button and there is a drop-down box to select the comm port.
